  • You must be in possession of a valid passport or a valid identity card.

  • The official language is Greek, but often you can communicate in English or German.

  • Greece is in the Eastern European Time Zone. Eastern European Standard Time ( EET ) is 2 hours ahead of Greenwich Mean Time ( GMT+2 ).

    With Amsterdam there is a 1 hour time difference.

  • The official currency is the euro. In Greece you can withdraw money in many places.
    Also, credit card and debit cards are often accepted.

  • The International country calling code of Greece is +30.
    You usually have good reception for your mobile phone. Do take into account the relatively high costs involved.

  • If you live in a country with 110V electricity, your electric accessories would not work in Greece where 220V (50Hz) electrical outlets are standard. You need to purchase an electrical adaptor to make sure all your equipment can be plugged into the Greek electrical outlets.

  • Shops are closed between 13.00 and 16.00 for siesta.
    At night they often stay open until 20.00 or even later.

  • If you like good food, Greece is the right place to be. Greek cuisine is quite varied. Besides the well-known Mousaka, Tzaziki and Gyros restaurants serving various meat and fish dishes as well as tasty vegetarian dishes.
    Drinking water is not recommended from the tap, we advise you to buy bottled water.

  • Greece has a Mediterranean climate, with generally mild winters and warm summers. Spring and autumn are the best periods for active holidays.
